BEVACIZUMAB EFFECT ON EXPRESSION OF COLLAGEN TYPE I AFTER TRABECULECTOMY

Objective to determine the effect of bevacizumab as an antifibrotic agent on collagen density, thickness and type I after trabeculectomy in rabbit. Materials methods : Sixteen male New Zealand white rabbits divided by two groups, 8 control group treatment group. Control underwent injection balanced salt solution. Treatment subconjunctival (1.25mg, 25mg/mL). They were terminated 14 postoperative days. Masson Trichrome performed evaluate thickness. Immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal antibody was expression. Results This study showed density fibers decreased statistically significant (p = 0.075, p 0.05). Expression obtained decrease compared BSS 0.006, p<0.05). Conclusion Bevacizumab reduces bleb fibrosis inhibition angiogenesis accumulation extracellular matrix. Postoperative may limiting scar tissue formation at site blocking synthesis.
